The location indicated on the official map of the exhibition leads to a dimly lit small room with only a telephone number and the title of the work posted. No further information is given to the viewer. In fact, however, the artist is actually holding an irregular public production at a slightly remote location. 
When a visitor calls the telephone number posted in the room, they are connected to the artist, who is in the middle of a public production, and are asked questions about the location. The artist draws an imaginary map based on the stories heard there. The map, which has been created from the stories of several people, will appear as an undiscovered asteroid on the last day of the exhibition.
展覧会の公式マップに記されている場所に行くと、電話番号と作品タイトルが掲げられたているだけの薄暗い小部屋に辿り着く。鑑賞者にはそれ以上の情報は与えられていない。しかし実は、作者は実は少し離れた場所で不定期に公開制作を行なっている。 
鑑賞者が部屋に掲げられている電話番号に電話をすると、公開制作中の作者に繋がり、場所に関する質問をされる。作者はそこで聞いた話から想像した地図を描いている。何人もの話が繋がり広がった地図は、会期最終日に１つの未発見の小惑星となって現れる。

岩手県の宮古市民文化会館が主催するアーティストインレジデンスを通じて、劇団ブルーエゴナクの演出作家、穴迫信一さんと共同で制作した演劇作品。
「ひとり」から「ふたり」になったり、もしくは「僕」と「君」の関係が成立して、他者という圧倒的に未知な存在と向き合う瞬間、まるでちいさな宇宙が出現するかのように感じることがあります。今回、役者が二人であるからこそ目撃することができた小さな宇宙の誕生に、無限の可能性を感じました。 
実は、二人の役者が夏前に初めて出会った紛れもない事実から、このストーリーが始まっています。一見するとささやかな出会いをきっかけに、徐々に周囲の人を巻き込みながら舞台を作り進めていく様は、まさに宇宙の膨張を目の当たりにしているようでした。また、二人の膨張に穴迫さんと私も巻き込まれていたのかもしれません。
This theatre piece was produced in collaboration with Shinichi Anasako, director of the Blue Egonaku Theatre Company, through an artist-in-residence programme organised by the Miyako Civic Cultural Centre in Iwate Prefecture.
In the moment when the relationship from &#8216;one&#8217; to &#8216;two&#8217; or &#8216;me&#8217; to &#8216;you&#8217; is established and we are confronted with the overwhelmingly unknown presence of the other, it sometimes feels as if a tiny universe appears. This time, the birth of a small universe, which we were able to witness only because we were two actors, gave us a sense of infinite possibilities. 
In fact, the story begins with the undeniable fact that the two actors met for the first time before the summer. From this seemingly modest encounter, they gradually involved the people around them in the creation of the play, which was like witnessing the very expansion of the universe. It is also possible that Mr Anasako and I were also involved in their expansion.

遠い君ほど私から遠ざかる速度が速い

誰かに話さなかったら、きっと忘れ去られてしまうくらいささやかな場所の記憶も、実は都市を構成する大切な要素であるはずです。 
同時に、その記憶に誰もたどり着くことができないという点は、まるで確実に存在しているけど見ることのできない未発見の小惑星のようでもあります。 
会期中、作者の電話番号を公開し参加者に場所に関する記憶について尋ねました。およそ3o人の場所の記憶に耳を傾けながら、それぞれのエピソードから地図を想像し、数光年離れた先に漂っている未発見の小惑星のような、都市のイメージに思いを馳せる試みを行いました。

The memory of a place so small that it would surely be forgotten if no one told anyone about it, is in fact an important component of the city. 
At the same time, the fact that no one can reach these memories is like an undiscovered asteroid that definitely exists but cannot be seen. 
During the exhibition, the artist&#8217;s telephone number was made public and participants were asked about their memories of the place. Listening to the memories of around 3o people&#8217;s places, the artist tried to imagine a map from each episode and to think of an image of the city, like an undiscovered asteroid drifting a few light-years away.

共同制作をする有限会社丸重屋さんは、都市の建造物に潜むさまざまな傷や損傷を見つけ出します。発見された損傷の状況から、修繕や建て替えが行われるそうです。傷は表面に現れていなくても見えない部分で進行しているというのは、どことなく人が記憶を失っていく過程に似ているようでもあり、見えない傷を記録する行為は、まるで誰にも忘れられないように記憶を留めているかのような印象を抱きました。
丸重屋さんが発見する傷が忘却の可能性を秘めているとしたら、というささやかな連想から、全ての人に忘れられてしまった建造物について想像してみました。もしかしたら世界には人が存在を忘れてしまい、誰も知らないうちに崩壊してしまったり、誰の記憶にも残っていない建造物があるかもしれません。誰にも忘れられないように記録された傷は、まるで建造物に潜む失われた記憶の亡霊のように、忘却の可能性を暗示します。それは失われた場所の記憶を朧げに浮かび上がらせるのかもしれません。

MARUSHIGEYA CORPORATION who co-created the project, finds various scars and damages hidden in urban buildings. They repair or rebuild based on the damage discovered. The fact that even if the damage does not appear on the surface, it is developing in areas that cannot be seen is somewhat similar to the process of people losing their memories, and the act of recording invisible damage gives the impression that the memories are being stored so that no one will ever forget them.
From the modest association that the wounds that Marujuya discovers have the potential to be forgotten, I tried to imagine a structure that has been forgotten by all. Perhaps there are structures in the world that people have forgotten exist and have collapsed without anyone&#8217;s knowledge or anyone&#8217;s memory. Scars recorded so that no one forgets them, like the ghosts of lost memories lurking in a structure, imply the possibility of oblivion. It may bring up vague memories of lost places.

栃木県足利市にある廃校になった旧大久保分校で行われた展覧会。
分校を卒業した様々な年代の卒業生にインタビューを行い、彼らが語る曖昧な記憶の中に残っている様々なモチーフを日時計として教室に配置したインスタレーションを行いました。タイトルとなっているコスモスの話も、インタビューから得たエピソードとなっています。学校の机にこのテキストを刻み、それを木版として印刷し、ポスターとして市内に貼られる。テキストそのものが、足利の人々に参加を即すインタラクティブアートとなります。

This exhibition was held at the former Okubo Branch School in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, which had been closed down.
The graduates of the branch school in various ages were interviewed, and various motifs that remained in their vague memories were placed in the classroom as a sundial in an installation. The story of the cosmos, which is the title of the exhibition, is also an episode obtained from the interviews. This text was engraved on school desks, printed as woodblocks, and put up as posters around the city. The text itself will become an interactive art form that will immediately invite the people of Ashikaga to participate.

コスモスが咲いたら花束を作って誰か知らない人に渡してください

新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響を受けた人々が行うコミュニケーションの変容から、「話し声」に着目した公開制作を行った。道路に面したガラス張りの小部屋の中で作者が公開制作をしていると、訪れた人は作者と電話を通じて会話をすることができる。
電話をすると、「あなたにとって重要な場所や、強く印象に残っている場所の話をしてください。私はその話から地図を想像して描いています。」という質問から、場所に関する
思い出話をしてもらう。その会話を元に地図を想像し、一ヶ月かけて一つの「未発見の小惑星」のドローイングを描いた。

From the transformations in communication that people affected by COVID-19 infection, the artist focused on the “speaking voice” in this public work.
While the artist was working in a small glass-walled room facing the road, visitors could have a conversation with the artist via telephone. When you call, the artist says, “Tell me about a place that is important to you, a place that left a strong impression on you. I imagine and draw a map from that story.”  and then ask them to share their memories about the place. I imagined a map based on these conversations and drew a drawing of an “undiscovered asteroid” over the course of a month.

黄金町に点在する、矢印が描かれた標識の作品には「自分自身にとって重要な場所」から「将来いきたい場所」が示されています。それはワークショップに参加した誰かにとっての道しるべです。
私たちは誰もがささやかで個人的な地図を心に抱いています。そこには自らの経験によって結ばれた場所の記憶が配置され、ある意味で地理的な制約から解放されていると言えます。この作品が設置された場所は、様々な人の場所に関する記憶が交錯する場としての役割を果たしながら、漂流地としての様相を呈しているのです。あなたなら、どの場所を書きますか？

The sign works with arrows dotted around the town of Koganecho point out from “the place that matters to myself” to “the place that I want to go in the future.” It is a guidepost for someone who participated in the workshop. We all have a small and personal map in mind. There is a memory of places connected by one’s own experience, and in a sense it is free from geographical constraints.
The place where this work is installed plays a role as a place where memories about various people’s places intermingle, and it appears as a drifting ground. Which places do you write?

都市をスケールから解放するためのワークショップ

「ここに見えない地図が書かれていると想像してください。その地図上に『中心の場所』『重要な場所』『行きたい場所』『行った場所』『思い出した場所』をそれぞれ配置してください。」このように呼びかけるワークショップを８日間行いました。結果、およそ６０人の参加者による「見えない地図」が会議室の湾曲した壁面で重なり合う状況が出現しました。
一人で想像する「見えない地図」は、経験と記憶から導きだされた個人の肖像であるといえるでしょう。では、複数の参加者による「見えない地図」は、どのような記憶を私たちに見せてくれるのでしょうか。
壁面に書き込まれた場所の名前は、個人の経験や意識などが、他者との複雑な関係性を構築しながら配置されています。交錯した線は、ただ土地の名前を繋ぐだけではなく、記憶の風景を結びつけます。それは単なる「地図」を超えた多元的な風景を浮かび上がらせます。
複数人による「見えない地図」は、さまざまな記憶が同時多発的に変化する光景を私たちに見せているのかもしれません。

A work created with a securities company employees. On this wall“Imagine an invisible map. Please arrange your own important place,a place you want to go etc, on the imagined map.” As a result, an“invisible map” by about 60 participants appeared to overlap on the curved wall of the conference room. The “invisible map” imagined alone can be said to be a portrait of an individual derived from experience and memory.
So what kind of memories do “invisible maps” by multiple participants show us? The names of places written on the wall are arranged while building complex relationships with others, such as personal experience and awareness. The intersecting lines not only connect the names of the lands, but also connect the scenery of memories. It brings out a multi-dimensional landscape beyond just a “map”. The “invisible map” by several people may be showing us a scene where various memories change simultaneously and frequently.

見えない地図を想像してください

ここに刻まれているのはすべて都市の名前です。 知っている都市名から、あなたはなにを思い浮かべますか。最近の出来事や、ささやかな思い出、誰かの声などでしょうか。
では、都市名に潜む見えない記憶に耳を傾けてみてください。そこでは他者の記憶も古い記憶も内包され、ひしめきあっているはずです。雑音のような混沌とした記憶の総体を、私たちは「都市」と呼ぶのではないでしょうか。

Engraved here are the names of cities. When you see the names of cities you know, what thoughts come to you? Do you think of something that happened recently or in the past or do you remember the sound of someone’s voice?
Please listen to those memories; old memories and other people’s memories lie hidden within the name of a city. Like a humming, rumbling noise, all these memories are jumbled together in the city.

伊勢河崎商人館にもう誰が使っていたのかわからないお膳が残されていました。式年遷宮の際に出た木端を使った伊勢春慶塗りのお膳は、かつてお祝いの品として贈られるものだったそうです。古くなり片足が取れてしまっていても、誰かにとって日常の一部だったものです。 
蔵には他にもたくさんの思い出の品が保管されていました。時間がたっても大切なものを守るために建物を作る、もしくは屋根を掛けるのだとしたら、それは忘却に抗うかのようでとても人間的だなと思いました。伊勢神宮の建物にも同様の印象を抱いたことがあります。特に「屋根」はその象徴であるかのように見えました。 
2020年伊勢市クリエイターズワーケーションで伊勢神宮にそんな印象を抱いてから、ずっとやってみたいと思っていたプロジェクトがあります。それが、多くの人に見過ごされてしまう場所だけど、誰かにとってはとても印象的な出来事があった場所に屋根を掛けるというものでした。大切なものを守るために屋根を掛けるのだとしたら、誰が一人にとって大切な出来事に屋根を掛けてみたいと思ったのです。 
伊勢河崎商人館でかつて誰かの日常の一部だったお膳に出会ってから、蔵に保管されなかった誰かの記憶についてずっと考えていました。その時にふと、蔵と蔵の隙間を見つけて、こっそり隠れたりするのにちょうど良さそうな気がしました。そこに、蔵から溢れてしまったかもしれない誰かの出来事に屋根を掛けてみました。

A table that is no longer known who used it was left behind at the Ise-Kawasaki Merchant&#8217;s House. The Ise Shunkei Nuri(lacquered) table, made of wood chips from the ceremonial relocation of the shrine, was once given as a gift to celebrate the occasion. Even though it is old and one leg has been removed, it was part of everyday life for someone. 
There were many other memorabilia stored in the storehouse. If a building is built or roofed to protect something that is still important after time, I thought it was very human, as if it was resisting oblivion. I have had a similar impression of the buildings of the Ise Shrine. In particular, the &#8216;roof&#8217; seemed to be a symbol of this. 
Since I had such an impression of Ise Jingu during the 2020 Ise City Creators&#8217; Workshops, there is a project that I have always wanted to try. It was to hang a roof over a place that is overlooked by many people, but where a very memorable event took place for someone. If I was going to hang a roof to protect something important, I wanted to hang a roof on an event that was important to every one of us. 
I had been thinking about someone&#8217;s memories that were not stored in the storehouse ever since I came across a set of dishes that were once part of someone&#8217;s daily life at the Isekawasaki Merchant&#8217;s House. At that time, I suddenly found a gap between the storehouses, which seemed like the perfect place to sneak away and hide. There, I hung a roof over the events of someone who might have overflowed from the storehouse.

この場所で発掘されたという、何百年も前、平家の石垣に使われていたという石のかたちをした惑星、そもそも石そのものはおそらく何千年・何万年の時を経ていて、それが描かれている支持体の木の板には年輪として何十年もの年月が刻まれていて、惑星の表面に目をこらすと見えて来る〈地図〉には、金子未弥さんが三十人ほどのひとたちから聞いた（電話で、あるいは直接に…）、そのひとたちが何年もの間あたため、あるいは何十年も記憶の底に眠っていた、場所にまつわる記憶たちが刻まれている、それらをもとにして、およそひと月かけて金子さんが描いた惑星——、こうして幾重もの時間が交響し、いくつもの空間が交通しながら、一つの〈小惑星〉として、このノーガホテル 清水 京都のロビーに今、浮かんでいる。それは遠くから見ると、どこか脳が、この惑星に刻まれたたくさんのひとたちの、あるいはここを往来するたくさんのひとたちの集合体としての脳が、惑星となって浮かんでいるようにも見える。わたしはひととき、この〈小惑星〉を観測しながら、〈地図〉のなかを歩いて、ときに…いや、しばし、迷子になりながら、やがて地図が語りかけてくる無数の物語に耳を傾けた。地図の声は、やがてひとりひとりの声になり、それはやがてわたし自身の記憶のなかの人たちの声にも重なって。きっとこの小惑星をこれから観測する、ひとりひとりが、それぞれの内なる地図、内なる惑星と交信しあって、新しく、そして懐かしい、あまりにも遠く、そしてあまりにも近しい、それぞれの物語を目撃し、耳にすることになるはず。まずはしばし、ここに佇んで、じっくり（時間のゆるすかぎり…）観測してみてほしい。ゆっくりと、まずは惑星の路地へと降り立って。

人間が信じられるものばかりでできている都市で長く生活していると、神秘的なことについてほとんど忘れかけていたと気がつきました。初めて天川村の洞川を訪れた時、そこにはまだ信じられないものの気配が残っているように感じて、ああこれを神秘的と言うんだったなと目が覚めたようでした。
そこで、洞川に漂う「神秘」についてささやかな想像を巡らせてみました。この場所には、まるでいつでも夢のような予期せぬ物語を紡ぎ出すことを待っているかのように過去の気配が漂っています。もしかしたらこの地域に漂うどことなく神秘的な雰囲気とは、地域全体が覚えている忘れられない夢の気配なのかもしれません。

I realized that living for so long in a city made up of all the things we can believe in, I had almost forgotten about the mystical. When I first visited Dorogawa in Tenkawa Village, I felt that there was still a hint of the unbelievable, and it was like an awakening to realize that this was what I meant by mystical.
So, I began to have a small imagination about the &#8220;mystery&#8221; floating in the Dongcheon River. There is a hint of the past drifting in this place as if it is always waiting to weave a dreamy and unexpected tale. Perhaps the somehow mysterious atmosphere in this area is a sign of an unforgettable dream that the entire community remembers.

黄金町バザール2020で行ったワークショップ《未発見の小惑星観測所》を元にしたインスタレーション。ワークショップでは、鑑賞者は公開制作中の私に電話をかけることができ、「印象に残っている場所の話」をします。鑑賞者が語る豊かな場所の記憶から、私は地図を想像して未発見の小惑星を描きました。
電話を通して初めて聞いた場所の記憶は、どれもとても美しいストーリーでした。もし人の記憶も都市を構成する要素であるとするならば、周囲に潜んでいる場所の記憶を元に、実在しない都市を思い描くことができるのではないかと考えました。
これはいくつかの場所の記憶から構成した、架空の都市計画です。

This installation is based on the workshop &#8220;Undiscovered Asteroid Observatory&#8221; conducted at Koganecho Bazaar 2020. In the workshop, viewers could call me during the public production and &#8220;talk about a place that left an impression&#8221;. From their rich memories of places, I imagined a map and drew an undiscovered asteroid.
All the memories of places I heard for the first time through the phone were very beautiful stories. I thought that if people&#8217;s memories are also a component of a city, then it would be possible to envision a non-existent city based on the memories of places that lurk around us.
This is an imaginary city plan composed from the memories of several places.

都市計画

福島県の南相馬市にある小高地区は、福島第一原発の事故で、一時期住民が全て避難していた場所です。現在、この場所は人の出入りが許されて、住民も帰ってきて、街の機能を再構築しているように見えます。しかし多くの住民はこの土地を離れ、以前のコミュニティを取り戻しているとは言えない状況です。
私はこの場所で２週間の滞在をして作品を制作しました。ここに住む人とのコミュニケーションを通じて、一番に感じたのは、人がある場所に住み続けることの尊さでした。ここの住民は、この場所に愛着と誇りを持って住んでいました。
日本には、年賀状と呼ばれるグリーティングカードを新年の挨拶に親しい人に送ります。私が福島に滞在していたのは、ちょうど人々がグリーティングカードの準備をする時期でした。
そこで、もしかしたら人と人の間を漂うハガキは、その両者の関係性を象徴する媒体になり得るのかもしれない、というささやかな希望からこのプロジェクトへと至りました。私は小高に住んでいる人々が、遠くに行ってしまった誰かに対してグリーティングカードを出すように即すインタラクティブアートを、郵便局や駅など、街の人々が集まる場所と共同して行いました。

The Odaka district in Minamisoma, Fukushima Prefecture, is where all residents were evacuated for a time due to the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Today, the place is open to people, residents have returned, and the town appears to be rebuilding its functions. However, many residents have left the area and have not yet regained their former communities.
I spent two weeks in this place to create a work of art. Through communication with the people who live here, what I felt most was the preciousness of people continuing to live in a certain place. Residents here lived with attachment and pride to this place.
In Japan, people send greeting cards called nengajo (New Year&#8217;s cards) to those close to them as New Year&#8217;s greetings. This culture at one time felt like a sort of multiple obligation, and these days many people are trying to stop this tradition. My stay in Fukushima was right around the time when people were preparing their greeting cards.
I came to this project with the modest hope that perhaps the postcards floating between people could become a medium to symbolize the relationship between them. I collaborated with the post office, train station, and other places where people gather in the city to create interactive art that would prompt people living in Odaka to send a greeting card to someone who has moved away.

思い出せない場所について教えてください

2つの場所に設置されたインフォメーションセンターをワークショップの拠点として製作しました。一方には電話番号が書かれたボードに次のテキストが書かれています。「080-xxxx-xxxxに電話をしてみてください。あなたの記憶に残っている風景を、誰かが絵ハガキにしてくれるかもしれません。」参加者が電話をすると、もう一方のインフォメーションセンターに設置された電話がなり、そこで電話を取った人は、相手の話から風景を想像してポストカードを描きます。
この作品においてインフォメーションセンターは都市への入り口で、その出口は観光地によくあるギフトショップへと繋がります。旅先での出来事を現地のポストカードに書き留めて誰かに送る。そこに書かれる何気ないストーリーこそ、実はその場所のイメージを作り出しているのかもしれません。普段は目に見えない、他者の記憶に耳を傾けてみましょう。もしかしたら思いがけないほど美しいストーリーが隠れているかもしれません。

Someone might be able to make a postcard of a landscape you remember.&#8221; When a participant calls, a phone located at the other information center rings, and the person who picks up the phone there imagines a landscape from the caller&#8217;s story and draws a postcard.
In this work, the information center is the entrance to the city, and its exit leads to a gift store, a common sightseeing spot. The events of the traveler&#8217;s destination are written down on a local postcard and sent to someone else. The casual story written on the postcard may in fact create an image of the place. Listen to the memories of others, which are usually invisible. Perhaps there is an unexpectedly beautiful story hidden in there.

このプロジェクトは、私が新型コロナウイルス感染症(COVID-19)による外出自粛期間中に、異様なほどの静けさに包まれた横浜を一人で歩いていたときに、都市のイメージはどのように変化するか想像してみたことから始まりました。
同じ光景を見てるはずなのに、私の知っている横浜と違う、どこか遠く離れた場所のようだと感じた都市の姿は、まるで確実に存在しているけど実際には見ることのできない未発見の小惑星と似ているのではないかと考えました。
私たちが都市の姿を記憶に留め、その記憶の総体によって都市のイメージを形成しているだとすれば、たとえお互いの距離がどれだけ離れていたとしても、都市の姿は共有出来るのかも知れません。このプロジェクトは、数光年離れた先に漂う都市のイメージに思いを馳せる試みなのです。

This project began when I tried to imagine how the image of the city would change when I was walking alone in the unusually quiet Yokohama during the period of voluntary curfew due to the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
I thought that the city, which I felt was like some faraway place, different from the Yokohama I knew, even though I was supposed to be seeing the same sights, might resemble an undiscovered asteroid that definitely exists but that I could not actually see.
If we can retain the image of a city in our memory and form an image of the city by the totality of our memories, we may be able to share the image of the city, no matter how far apart we are from each other. This project is an attempt to ponder the image of a city that is several light years away.
